From regular boundary graphs to antipodal distance-regular graphs

چکیده
Let Γ be a regular graph with n vertices, diameter D, and d + 1 different eigenvalues λ > λ1 > · · · > λd. In a previous paper, the authors showed that if P (λ) > n − 1, then D ≤ d − 1, where P is the polynomial of degree d−1 which takes alternating values±1 atλ1, . . . , λd. The graphs satisfying P (λ) = n − 1, called boundary graphs, have shown to deserve some attention because of their rich structure. This paper is devoted to the study of this case and, as a main result, it is shown that those extremal (D = d) boundary graphs where each vertex have maximum eccentricity are, in fact, 2-antipodal distanceregular graphs. The study is carried out by using a new sequence of orthogonal polynomials, whose special properties are shown to be induced by their intrinsic symmetry. c © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The spectral excess theorem for distance-regular graphs having distance-d graph with fewer distinct eigenvalues
Let Γ be a distance-regular graph with diameter d and Kneser graph K = Γd, the distance-d graph of Γ. We say that Γ is partially antipodal when K has fewer distinct eigenvalues than Γ. In particular, this is the case of antipodal distance-regular graphs (K with only two distinct eigenvalues), and the so-called half-antipodal distance-regular graphs (K with only one negative eigenvalue). We prov...
متن کاملDistance regular covers of the complete graph
Distance regular graphs fall into three families: primitive, antipodal, and bipar-tite. Each antipodal distance regular graph is a covering graph of a smaller (usually primitive) distance regular graph; the antipodal distance graphs of diameter three are covers of the complete graph, and are the first non-trivial case. Many of the known examples are connected with geometric objects, such as pro...
متن کاملAntipodal covers of strongly regular graphs
Antipodal covers of strongly regular graphs which are not necessarily distance-regular are studied. The structure of short cycles in an antipodal cover is considered. In most cases, this provides a tool to determine if a strongly regular graph has an antipodal cover. In these cases, covers cannot be distance-regular except when they cover a complete bipartite graph. A relationship between antip...
متن کاملValency of Distance-regular Antipodal Graphs with Diameter 4
Let G be a non-bipartite strongly regular graph on n vertices of valency k. We prove that if G has a distance-regular antipodal cover of diameter 4, then k ≤ 2(n + 1)/5 , unless G is the complement of triangular graph T (7), the folded Johnson graph J (8, 4) or the folded halved 8-cube. However, for these three graphs the bound k ≤ (n − 1)/2 holds. This result implies that only one of a complem...
متن کاملD-Spectrum and D-Energy of Complements of Iterated Line Graphs of Regular Graphs
The D-eigenvalues {µ1,…,µp} of a graph G are the eigenvalues of its distance matrix D and form its D-spectrum. The D-energy, ED(G) of G is given by ED (G) =∑i=1p |µi|. Two non cospectral graphs with respect to D are said to be D-equi energetic if they have the same D-energy. In this paper we show that if G is an r-regular graph on p vertices with 2r ≤ p - 1, then the complements of iterated lin...
